Insurgent Cuba: Race, Nation, and Revolution, 1868-1898

Insurgent Cuba: Race, Nation, and Revolution, 1868-1898 - Ada Ferrer Besides being a useful and very readable overview of the Cuban revolution(s), Ferrer provides a compelling argument about the centrality of race and nationality for understanding not only the revolution itself but also its legacy. I was stuck between three and four stars, but keeping in mind the amazing and detailed primary research that went into this book, I could not give it just three.
